Swedish Exakta is investing heavily in inkjet

Swedish printer Exakta, with a turn over of 447 million Swedish krones in 2018, chooses inkjet when they now invest in several new presses.

The Exakta group with HQ in Malmö has for a long time been an early adopter when it comes to new technology and development. When they now invest heavily in new equipment, two inkjet presses were chosen.

You chose between offset and inkjet this time, why did you choose inkjet?

“We’re in the middle of an integration phase and needed more production capacity. We monitor the development in our industry and our market, and when we analyze this in detail, we believe inkjet is the right choice. Flexible and automated production, in addition to a more effective finishing process, were important factors when choosing inkjet.”

Two inkjets – different purpose

Exakta wanted to invest in equipment ideal for production of printed materials with circulation of between 300 and 1500. The company believed there was a gap between offset and the digital production and now invest in two inkjets from Canon. Both machines are roll based and the finishing is done offline.

For print on coated paper, the company has acquired a Prostream 1000 which print on both sides at a speed of 80 metres per minute. Prostream 1000 is able to print on paper from 40 and up to 300 grams. Equivalent to almost 7.000 B2 sheets (50×70 cm) 4+4 per hour.

This will be the first Prostream 1000 in Sweden. There are similar machines in Eversfrank in Hamburg and at Pixartprinting in Italy.

In addition, Exakta has purchased a Colorstream 6900 Chroma which is especially suited for printing on uncoated paper. This machine will be used for more traditional book and education material.

Tailormade finishing

Exakta is also investing in tailormade finishing equipment from Hunkeler and Müller Martini, equipment that enables effective production of glued and stiched books and brochures.

Installation are planed to be done in October.
