On June 19, the Boards of Directors of Norwegian print firms Merkur Grafisk AS and Make!Graphics AS decided to file for voluntary bankruptcy with the Follo and Nordre Østfold District Court, according to a joint press release.
The decision comes as a result of a prolonged, challenging financial situation that has made continuing operations unsustainable. Despite measures implemented to improve profitability, the companies were unable to secure necessary financing and liquidity.
In recent years, the market for graphic production has been impacted by falling demand and rising costs. These market conditions contributed to a financial status that the board ultimately determined to be untenable, concluding that filing for bankruptcy was the only viable path forward.
Looking Ahead
All standard operations cease with immediate effect. The Follo and Nordre Østfold District Court is expected to appoint a receiver to take over control of the companies’ assets and liabilities. The bankruptcy estate will handle all outstanding claims, deliveries, and contracts, and creditors will be contacted directly with instructions on how to register their claims.
